Queen Elizabeth II’s 90th birthday was last night fêted with a spectacular performance on the final day of the Royal Windsor Horse Show at Windsor Castle.

She arrived to the arena with the Duke of Edinburgh in a carriage, before being greeted by the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall and then taking their seats in the stands for the evening’s entertainment.

Among the royals attending were the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince Harry, the Duke of York, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, the Countess of Wessex and Viscount Severn, Peter and Autumn Phillips, the Duke of Kent, Princess Alexandra of Kent, Prince Michael of Kent, Lady Gabriella Windsor, and Lady Sarah Chatto and her family.

Foreign royals present were King Hamad of Bahrain, Landgrave Donatus and Landgravine Floria-Franziska of Hesse and Prince Ludwig of Baden (Prince Philip’s nephews).

The Earl of Wessex, Lady Louise Mountbatten-Windsor, the Princess Royal and Zara Tindall all mounted up to participate in one of the horse segments (over 900 horses – arguably the Queen’s most favourite thing – took part, as did over 600 members of the Defence Forces).

Musical performances by Katherine Jenkins, Dame Shirley Bassey, James Blunt, Andrea Boccelli and Kylie Minogue made up part of the show, which took the audience through the Queen’s lifetime.

The night ended with Dame Shirley Bassey singing a rendition of Happy Birthday to the Queen, as a giant birthday cake was pulled into the arena by a Land Rover. Fireworks then burst from the ‘cake’, causing many of the royal party to cover their ears.
