The Belgian King and Queen this morning visit the Erasmus Hospital in Anderlecht, where they were given a briefing by medical staff on the conditions and injuries suffered by victims of yesterday’s horrific terrorist attack in the Belgian capital, which killed over 30 people.

They also met with volunteers who provided medical aid across the day and also some of the victims which were taken to this particular hospital.

King Philippe and Queen Mathilde, along with Prime Minister Charles Michel, then observed a minute’s silence at the European Commission, held across the country to honour the victims of the attack.

This afternoon the couple will visit the Brussels National Airport in Zaventem that was one of the attack locations. It is also believed they will visit the Queen Astrid Military Hospital.

Last night, King Philippe delivered a televised address to his people, saying all Belgians “carry the pain of the lives that are broken” and that “together we will continue to respond with determination, composure and dignity. Let us retain confidence in ourselves, this is our strength.”
