Belgium’s King Albert II and Queen Paola received Jeannine Mottart at their private residence Belvédère in Laeken this week. The King spoke to Mottard about his mother Queen Astrid who died in a car accident in Küssnacht, Switzerland in 1935.

This year Mrs . Mottard pays tribute to Astrid for the 7th time. After Mottard won her battle against cancer she decided to do something special. That is why she started an annual pilgrimage: each year she walks from Küssnacht, Switzerland to Tongeren, Belgium to raise money for charity. So far Mottard was able to raise 100.000 Euros for ‘Liennemientje’, a children cancer fund.

King Albert wanted to pay tribute to the lady who remembers his mother in such a moving way. He showed her the walking stick of his mother: ‘the only thing that could be saved from the car (…) I do not want to lose it”the king added. Albert also asked Mrs. Mottard to make sure that his mother won’t be forgotten after he is gone.
