Crown Princess Masako of Japan today attended the annual autumn garden party at Akasaka Palace along with other members of the Imperial Family.

Dressed in a vibrant purple outfit with matching hat, the Crown Princess stood out from the crowd in what was her first appearance at the garden party since 2003.

The Emperor and Empress hosted the party, where invited members of Japanese society meet the Imperial Family, and were accompanied by the Crown Prince Couple, Prince Akishino and his wife Kiko and their daughter Mako, as well as members of the Hitachi and Mikasa branches of the family.

I believe if the Imperial Court weren’t perhaps so exacting, formal and regimented, the Crown Princess would show herself as an invaluable influence not only in the Imperial family but throughout the country. Masako is intelligent and accomplished who under ordinary circumstances would be a shining example of a modern Japanese woman but with the pressures of producing a male heir and the unreasonable expectations thrust upon her, no wonder she has had the difficulties which have been all too highlighted in the press.
