Prince Akishino Turns 50

Prince Akishino turns 50 today. Born on November 30, 1965 in Tokyo, he is the second son of Emperor Akihito and Empress Michio and is second inline to the throne.

He studies elementary and secondary years at the Gakushuin. In April 1984, he entered the Gakushuin University he majored and graduated law and biology. October 1988 to June 1990, he studied the taxonomy of fish at St John’s College, Oxford in the United Kingdom. Prince Akishino received his PhD in ornithology from the Graduate University for Advanced Studies in October 1996.

On June 29, 1990 Prince Akishino married Kiko Kawashima. The couple met when they were both studying undergraduates at Gakushuin. Together they have three children, Princess Mako, Princess Kako and Prince Hisahito.
