Denmark’s Crown Princess Mary today opened a new housing unit for returned servicemen and women in Høvelte, close to the YMCA’s Veteran Centre in the area.

Wearing a navy double-breasted coat (pinned to the lapel was a ‘Fight Cancer’ pin from which proceeds go the National Collection to Fight Cancer), the Crown Princess officially opened the houses before being given a tour of the facilities and meeting with the veterans who will take up use of them.

The housing will be used as transition homes for returned soldiers and their families to provide them easy access to services that assist veterans in returning to ‘normal’ life and gives them the opportunity to live in a community with fellow veterans for up to three years.

Mary is patron of the YMCA’s Soldier Mission, which has established the transition housing.
