The Danish Royal Family has attended the opening of the 2015-2016 session of parliament today at Christiansborg Palace.

In typical fashion, the family – Crown Prince Frederik, Crown Princess Mary, Prince Joachim, Princess Marie and Princess Benedikte – congregated on the steps outside the palace while waiting for the Queen and Prince Henrik. After a round of curtsies and kisses when they arrived, the family entered the building alongside the Presidium of the Danish Parliament (the Speaker and the deputies).

The opening was chaired, as per tradition, by the longest serving minister of parliamentary, who is Bertel Haarder. Then Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen delivered his opening speech, which touched heavily on the challenges the parliament will be facing in the coming session and the refugee crisis affecting Europe.

Queen Margrethe opted for a red tweed ensemble, Crown Princess Mary kept it simple in black and grey lace, while Princess Marie continued her ‘Inspector Marie at Parliament Opening’ theme in a beige coat and purple fedora. Ever-elegant Princess Benedike also went for a beige coat, paired with sky blue accessories.
