Dressed in a simple fuchsia frock, Denmark’s Crown Princess paid a visit to the city of Aarhus today, where her visit focused on the areas of health and education.

First was a stop at the Aarhus University Hospital to visit the paediatric heart clinic. Princess Mary – who is patron of the Danish Heart Association – spoke with doctors and nurses, before meeting with some of the children who suffer from heart-related illnesses and are receiving treatment at the hospital.

Among those children was 7-year-old Maya who is a cardiac outpatient who suffers from an enlarged heart. The Crown Princess spent time talking with Maya about her hobbies and what she does at school, and was described by the youngster as being “really sweet”. Afterwards, Princess Mary was given the opportunity to watch a portion of a surgery closing the hole in the heart of a 14-year-old boy.

Later in the day, Mary opened the International School of Aarhus Academy for Global Education at its new premises.  After speeches and a few poems recited by students, the Princess was shown around the school and visited the 0 and 1 classes. Then she, with the help of four students representing the international culture of the school (Kasper from Denmark, Moeri from Japan, Turushi from India and Jason, who is Danish-American), inaugurated two ‘friendship benches’ out in the school grounds.
