First Day of the School Year for the Young Belgians

Belgium’s young royals today began the 2015-2016 school year, heading off in the company of their parents, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde.

The Duchess of Brabant, Prince Gabriel and Princess Eléonore were dropped off at the Sint-Jans Berchmans College, a Dutch school in Brussels, by their father, walking down the street together. 7-year-old Eléonore – almost dwarfed by her hot pink backpack, which matched both her pants and her hair clips – was the first to part the group, in the primary school section of the building, before her elder siblings went off to the secondary area.

Meanwhile, Queen Mathilde accompanied Prince Emmanuel to his first day of the year at the Eureka School in Kessel-Lo. The Prince, whose school specialises in learning difficulties, was seen pulling his backpack on wheels behind him across the cobble-stone entrance.
