Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip Begin Holyrood Week
The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh have begun their annual week-long stay at the Palace of Holyroodhouse today, with the traditional Ceremony of the Keys taking place in the Palace’s forecourt.
Welcoming Queen Elizabeth to her “ancient and hereditary kingdom of Scotland” was the Lord Provost of Edinburgh, Donald Wilson, who presented her with a set of keys to the city. The Queen then returned the keys to Mr Wilson, a gesture which highlights the sovereign’s trust in the city’s elected officials.
Her Majesty, dressed in a mint green coat over a lilac floral dress, then inspected a guard of honour made up of several Scottish regiments.Filed under The United Kingdom
