British Royal Family Celebrate Trooping The Colour
The British Royal Family has come out to celebrate Trooping the Colour, the military ceremony that marks the sovereign’s official birthday.
Queen Elizabeth II was joined by the Duke of Edinburgh in the Ascot Landau for the ride to Horse Guards Parade from Buckingham Palace. The Duchess of Cornwall, the Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry followed in the second carriage, while the Duke of York and his daughters, Princess Beatrice and Eugenie, were in a third. The Duke of Kent and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester made up the final coach.
The Prince of Wales, the Duke of Cambridge and the Princess Royal all rode on horseback in the procession.
At Horse Guards Parade, the Queen took the royal salute before inspecting the 1,100 Household Division troops taking part. This year, the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards have been selected to parade their colours in front of the gathering.
Once the ceremony was completed, the procession made its way back to Buckingham Palace, where the extended Royal Family appeared on the Palace balcony to watch the final stage of the procession.
Prince George, who had earlier been seen watching the parade excitedly from the windows of the Palace, joined his parents on the balcony for the flypast of RAF aircrafts. It is the 23-month-old’s first Trooping appearance. James, Viscount Severn also made his Trooping balcony debut.
