Swedish Royal Wedding: Who Will Dress The Bride?

There is less than five days to go until Sofia Hellqvist marries Sweden’s Prince Carl Philip, and one of the hot topics of discussion as we get down to the wire is what will the bride be wearing? And who will have been chosen to design her gown?

Here are some of the designers who might have made the cut!

Ida Sjöstedt: For her first gala event as a royal fiancé, Sofia went to Ida Sjöstedt to design something for the Nobel Prize ceremony last December. The silhouette of Sofia’s plum Nobel gown suited her well, and something similar may be seen on Saturday as Sjöstedt is currently the front-runner of the rumour mill regarding Sofia’s wedding gown.

Göran Alfredsson (Thalia): Sofia has worn at least two of this designer’s evening gowns in the past – a lilac sheath with a boat neckline for Princess Madeleine’s wedding in 2013 and a buttercup yellow number at the pre-wedding dinner.

Pär Engsheden: Engsheden was chosen in 2010 to create a bridal gown for Crown Princess Victoria, and many royal watchers will agree that he did a fabulous job. He has also made Nobel gowns for both Crown Princess Victoria and Princess Madeleine. Sofia has not worn any of his designs (yet).

Lars Wallin: A popular Swedish evening wear designer, Wallin is a friend of Vicky Andren, the wife of Bernadotte cousin Gustaf Magnuson. He created her 2013 wedding gown. Princess Madeleine has also worn an evening gown of his.

Designers making up the outliers on the bell curve include By Malina and Kay Senchai, both of whom Sofia has worn for evening wear since her engagement.

Who do you think has been given the honour of designing the future Princess’s wedding gown? Stay tuned for tomorrow’s pre-wedding coverage, where we take a look at possible tiara options for the bride.
