Happy National Day Norway!
The Norwegian Royal Family has celebrated National Day with a balcony appearance at the Royal Palace in Oslo.
King Harald, Queen Sonja, Crown Prince Haakon, Crown Princess Mette-Marit and Princess Ingrid Alexandra all greeted the masses of well-wishers gathered in the Palace forecourt. The National Children’s Parade took place in the Palace Square, which saw 60,000 school children from a number of schools (some included specifically because they are celebrating milestone anniversaries this year) file past the Palace carrying flags and wearing traditional costumes. Prince Sverre Magnus also appeared on the balcony for a short while.
Earlier in the day, as per tradition, the Crown Princely Family watched a National Day parade of school children from the steps of their home in Asker. The family – joined by the Crown Princess’s elder son Marius and the family dogs Milly Kakao and Muffin Kråkebolle – were all dressed in the Norwegian national costume, the bunad.
The Norwegian Crown Princely Family take part in National Day celebrations outside their home, Skaugum, May 17.
