Princess Elisabeth Baptises a Patrol Boat

Yesterday, Wednesday May 6, Princess Elisabeth, Duchess of Brabant baptised the patrol vessel P902 Pollux. At the ceremony, held at the Naval Base of Zeebrugge, were present King Philippe and Queen Mathilde.

The patrol vessel P902 Pollux is the second new patrol ship in use to the Belgian Navy, the first one patrol vessel 901 Castor was baptized last July by Queen Mathilde.

“I baptize you Pollux and wish to you and your crew a safe journey” said Princess Elisabeth in French and Dutch, before smashing the bottle of the champagne on the hull of the patrol boat. It didn’t go well the first time but in the end, with a little help, the Princess succeded in her task.

After the ceremony, Princess Elisabeth, along with the King and Queen, made a tour aboard of the patrol vessel.

For Princess Elisabeth it was the first ship she has baptised.
