King Philippe and Queen Mathilde: Visit to the EU Institutions

Yesterday, Wednesday February 25, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde paid an official visit to the European Institutions.

The first stop was at the European Parliament were the Royal Couple was welcomed by the chairman of the Parliament, Martin Schulz. Then they had a meeting with President Schulz and the political group leaders. The King and the Queen also signed the the distinguished visitors book.

Around midday, the Royal Couple went to the European Commission where, after being greeted by Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission, they attended a meeting with members of the committee. After a break for lunch, King Philippe and Queen Maxima went to the European Council where they were welcomed by the chairman of the Council of the European Union, Donald Tusk, and his wife Malgorzata.

It was the first visit to the European Institutions for King Philippe since his Inauguration in July 2013. Queen Mathilde walked on crutches during the visit in Brussels. The Queen suffered a knee injury due to a fall.
