He was greeted at the Amman Civil Airport by Prince Ghazi bin al-Muhammad, first cousin of King Abdullah II and his chief advisor on religious and cultural affairs, and the British Ambassador to Jordan, Peter Millett. A military guard of honour lined the red carpet as the official party departed.

Later, at the British Ambassador’s residence, Prince Charles had a meeting with Iraqi Christians who were forced to flee their home country because of religious persecution by ISIL. “It is impossible to live with the people who destroyed our homes and destroyed our church,” one of the refugees told the Prince, in relation to the possibility of returning to Iraq.

The Prince of Wales has previously been vocal about the case of Christians in the Middle East. He will meet with King Abdullah tomorrow.

Prince Charles will also visit Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates before returning to the UK on Friday.
