The award this year went to Julie Midtgaard, a psychologist and senior researcher, and Morten Quist, a research physiotherapist and health sciences graduate, for their work in researching the benefits of exercise for cancer patients. Part of the duo’s research included a project called Body and Cancer, where a six-week program was developed for patients undergoing chemotherapy to take part in physical activity.

Crown Princess Mary delivered a short speech before presenting the award, which comes with a 50,000DKK (6,700€ / $USD7,600) prize. “Getting cancer is an overwhelming experience in every sense…You must go through a demanding treatment, and most people experience anxiety and concern about what will happen if the treatment works and for the future. Fortunately, there is help and support,” she said.

The Crown Princess has presented the award for the past three years.
