Crown Princess Mary of Denmark was last night presented with a BAMBI Award in recognition of her charity work with The Mary Foundation, with a focus on domestic violence.

The awards ceremony, broadcast live on Germany television, took place at the Stage Theater am Potsdamer Platz in Berlin. The Crown Princess was accompanied to the event by her husband, Crown Prince Frederik.

Princess Mary, who wore a dark blue beaded evening gown by Danish designer Jesper Høvring, accepted the award on stage and made a brief speech thanking the organisers for the award. “I am truly honored tonight to receive this award. I accept it as a torch of hope for every girl who lives with violence or fear of violence,” she said.

The BAMBI Awards are an annual event organised by Hubert Burda Media, aiming to honour the “heroes of our time who have touched and inspired us with their actions, talents and visions.” The recipients of the awards each year are decided upon by the chief editors of the publications run by Hubert Burda Media.
