Queen Rania Visits The UAE

Queen Rania of Jordan paid a short visit to Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, where she participated in the “Investing In the Future” conference (IIF MENA) which was held for refugee children in the MENA region.

The Queen addressed the audience during the opening ceremony and highlighted the problems facing the refugees and their hosting communities. Her Majesty noted that “the year 2014 has witnessed the largest human displacement; one disaster after another around the world have displaced millions of people. The number of people who left their homes exceeded fifty million for the first time since World War II, and Syria is the most affected.”

She also talked about the importance of providing education to refugees, especially for children, as part of the solution to their problems as well as providing the necessary support for the educational institutions that bear this responsibility in their host countries.

The conference was held on Wednesday under the patronage and presence of Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and upon the invitation of Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, his wife and the UNHCR Eminent Advocate for Refugee Children, who also attended the event.

Queen Rania also stopped in Dubai, and toured the MBC group headquarters. She was welcomed and accompanied by the group chairman, Sheikh Waleed Al Ibrahim and a  number of senior staff of MBC TV channels.
