Princess Amélia of Orléans-Braganza Marries James Spearman

On August 16, Princess Amélia of Orléans-Braganza married James Spearman at the Church of Nossa Senhora do Monte do Carmo da Antige Sé in Rio de Janerio, Brazil.

The bride is the daughter of Prince Antônio of Orléans-Braganza and his wife, Princess Christine de Ligne. In order to marry her husband, Princess Amélia had to give up her royal title and style and is now Princess Amélia, Mrs Spearman.

The groom is the son of Lochain Alexander Spearman and his wife, Pilin de Garrigues, who herself is a member of the Spanish nobility. James is also a direct descendent of James V of Scotland, through his ancestor Sophia Henrietta Duff. He also belongs to the Spearman Baronets, who are an important family in Scotland.

The wedding was attended by the Princely Family de Ligne, the Duke and Duchess of Braganza and their children, Ambassador Héctor Riesle, Princess Maria Laura of Belgium, Archduchess of Austria-Este, Prince Casimir of Bourbon-Two Sicilies and his wife and sons, as well as the family of the Marquises of Garrigues, San Saturnino de la Granja and the Counts of Stolberg and Nicolaÿ, and various members of the British nobility.
