Prince Henrik was joined by his immediate family for the event, which featured performances by the William Blakes, Medina, Claus Hempler, Andreas Bo (who had the some members of the royal family in fits of laughter with his impressions) and Bent Fabricius-Bjerre. Other guests included King Constantine and Queen Anne-Marie of Greece, Countess Alexandra of Fredensborg and Martin Jørgensen and Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt.

During the concert, interviews with Prince Henrik were shown. Princess Isabella, the Prince’s eldest granddaughter, took part in one segment (available here), walking around the gardens of Fredensborg Palace. The Prince spoke about his relationship with his grandchildren, and how he makes pancakes with them in the palace fireplaces.

Following the concert, a supper was held in the lobby for the guests. The menu consisted of food from the three cultures which have shaped Prince Henrik’s life – Danish, French and Asian. Danish dishes included Fanø salmon and horseradish cream and mini meatballs, while the French dishes included a Foie Gras terrine and crème brûlée.  Spring rolls, an Asian noodle salad and exotic fruits represented the Prince’s childhood in Vietnam.

Prince Henrik turns eighty on June 11, which will be celebrated privately in France.
