Prince Carl Philip, Duke of Värmland Turns 35

Prince Carl Philip of Sweden, Duke of Värmland celebrates his 35th birthday on May 13th.

The Swedish Prince, who was born in 1979, is the second child and only son of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden. His full name is Carl Philip Edmund Bertil and he was baptised at the Royal Palace Church on August 31st, 1979. His chosen godparents were his late great-uncle Prince Bertil, Duke of Halland, Prince Leopold of Bavaria, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, and his aunt, Princess Birgitta of Sweden. The Prince has an older sister, Crown Princess Victoria, and a younger sister, PrincessMadeleine. He is currently third in the Swedish line of succession.

The Prince has a passionate love of car racing and is also fond of outdoor sports including skiing. Of late, the Prince’s romantic life has raised a few royal eyebrows and he has been in a relationship with Swedish model Sofia Hellqvist since 2010. Prince Carl Philip is an active member of the Swedish Royal Family and carries out official royal duties on behalf of his father and the Royal House of Bernadotte.
