On This Day: Princess of Wales Was Born

Lady Diana Frances Spencer was born July 1, 1961. Diana was born into one of the oldest families in the UK and was the fourth child of five.

Princess Diana was the first wife of Charles, Prince of Wales. The couple married on July 29, 1981 and the wedding was watched by over 700 million people worldwide. Princess Diana had two sons with Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince Harry.

During her marriage, Princess of Wales took up a wide range of official duties and charities. Prince Charles and Princess Diana divorced on August 28, 1996. After the divorce, Diana was still regarded as a member of the royal family.

Diana lost her life in a fatal car crash in Paris on August 31, 1997.
