The Swedish Marshal of the Realm, Svante Lindqvist, today announced that Christopher O’Neill, the fiance of Princess Madeleine, will not be receiving a royal title upon his June 8 marriage, in accordance with both title requirements and his own wishes.

Mr O’Neill intends to not apply for Swedish citizenship and also continue with his career following his marriage. As the royal family’s policy regarding who can be a member of the family states that a member needs to be both a Swedish citizen and not hold a “position of responsibility” in a business. Therefore, Mr O’Neill does (at this time) does not qualify for a royal title, and will remain a private citizen.

Princess Madeleine and Mr O’Neill’s joint monogram was also released today, it was designed by Vladimir A Sagerlund and features two interlocking Ms and Cs.

The couple is currently in Stockholm, having arrived earlier this week ahead of their marriage banns this coming Sunday.

I don’t blame him at all. I don’t imagine he wants to be restricted in what work he can do and he also doesn’t want to depend on Maddy for his finances. Besides, he is already an American citizen AND a British citizen so why throw another wrench into the mix? Good decision.

Sorry, I just don’t see a happy ending for this one.

Mr O’Neill is obviously his own Lord and Master and with duall citizenship he cannot possibly apply for a Swedish one unless he annuls one of the two others he has got already.

Also with a healthy international career he can keep his wife in a life she is accustomed! It honours him that he is his own man and can make it as a professional instead of being paid by the Swedish state or Tax payers for marrying a Princess! Countess Smirnoff, Lusie
