Infanta Elena attends French Open

Her Royal Highness Infanta Elena, Duchess of Lugo attended the French Open men’s final match between Rafael Nadal of Spain and Novak Djokovic of Serbia on Sunday June 10th.

The eldest daughter of King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofia was accompanied by the Spanish Minister of Education, Culture and Sports, Mr José Ignacio Wert, the President of the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation, Mr José Luis Escañuela, and President of the Govern de les Illes Balears, Mr Jose Ramon Bauza.

Despite the rain, Infanta Elena clearly enjoyed watching this tense match, but the final was suspended due to very heavy rain on Sunday afternoon.

Rafael Nadal of Spain achieved a historic seventh win in the tournament when the match resumed.

Members of the Spanish Royal Family are often present at major sporting events, earlier this week, the Prince and Princess of Asturias attended the Euro 2012 football match between Spain and Italy in Poland.

Rafael Nadal defeated Novak Djokovic 6-4, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5.
