Crown Princess Maxima in Malaysia and Indonesia
From Monday 02 to Thursday 05 April, Princess Maxima was on a working visit to Malaysia and Indonesia in her role as special advocate for the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon for Inclusive Finance for Development, and as the honorary chairman of the G20 Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion (GPFI).
On Monday 02 and Tuesday 03, the Princess was in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where she had meetings with to His Royal Highness Raja Nazrin Shah, Crown Prince of Perak, and the Governor of the Central Bank of Malaysia, Mr Muhammad bin Ibrahim, to discuss about financial inclusion and issues related with access to financial services in Malaysia. “Malaysia is a country with great leadership in this front and I certainly hope they keep on taking the leadership role and share them with others,” she said.
Later in the day of April 03, Princess Maxima moved to Indonesia.
On April 04, Princess Maxima in Jakarta had meeting with various government representatives. The Princess, in her first trip to Indonesia, met the President Dr H. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, the Economic Minister Hatta Rajasa, the Minister of Finance, Mr Agus Martowardojo, the Minister of Policy and Planning, Ms Prof. Armida Alisjahbana and the Governor of the Central Bank of Indonesia, Dr. D. Nasution.
Princess Maxima during her visit discussed about the country’s strategy in widening the public’s access to financial and banking services and she has also had the opportunity to learn about various projects aimed at economic education. The Princess also visited Indonesian migrant workers prior to their deployment to follow a course in financial education. This course was created thanks to a program of the World Bank, co-funded by the Netherlands.
Crown Princess Maxima in September 2009 was appointed as special advocate of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-Moon. Since June 2011, Princess Maxima is honorary chair of the G20 ‘Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion (GPFI).
