Dutch State Visit to Luxembourg, Day One
On March 20, Queen Beatrix started a three-day state visit to Luxembourg.
The Queen was greeted at the Findel Airport by Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume, and then a welcoming ceremony took palce at the Grand Ducal Palace with Grand Duke Henri, Grand Duchess Maria-Theresa and Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume.
After that Queen Beatrix visited the Kanounenhiwwel Monument, a monument built to commemorate the victims of the World War II. In early afternoon, the Queen had various audiences with the President of the Luxembourg Parliament, the Prime Minister of Luxembourg and the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Luxembourg.
Queen Beatrix was also received by the Mayor of Luxembourg City, Mr Xavier Bettel, whom the Queen presented with 1000 symbolic tulip bulbs.
In late afternoon Queen Beatrix, accompanied by Hereditary Grand Duke Guillaume, Grand Duke Henri, Grand Duchess Maria-Teresa, attended a meeting between Luxembourg and Dutch businesses at the Chamber of Commerce. The Queen signed a guestbook to mark the visit.
The first day of the state visit ended with a state banquet at the Grand Ducal Palace.
