The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, has appointed his brother, Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, as Crown Prince, Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior.

According to the Saudi press agency, SPA, the monarch issued his royal order after notifying the Chief and members of the Allegiance-Pledge Commission about his choice during a meeting held at his palace in Riyadh earlier.

Crown Prince Nayef was born in 1933 as the 23rd son of the late King Abdul Azia Al Saud, the founder of the kingdom. He has served as Second Deputy Prime Minister since 2009 and has already ruled the kingdom for short periods, during the absence of the King and the former Crown Prince, Sultan, who died last Saturday.
