Members of the Royal Family present this year were the King and Queen, the Prince and Princess of Asturias, Infanta Elena and the Duke and Duchess of Palma de Mallorca.

The celebrations started with a military parade in Madrid, during which His Majesty The King saluted members of the Spanish Armed Forces. By all accounts, it was a warm October day in Madrid, with temperatures peaking at 30°C.

Later the King, Queen and Royal Family held a reception at the Royal Palace of Madrid, where they later posed for group photographs.

Fiesta Nacional de España, or Spanish National Day, celebrates the anniversary of Columbus’s arrival in the Americas and also marks Spain’s Day of the Armed Forces.
