Concert Celebrating Máxima’s Fortieth Birthday
While her actual birthday is on May 17th, Princess Máxima celebrated her fortieth birthday this past Friday with a concert performed by the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. The Princess is patron of the orchestra.
The event took place at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, and was attended by a lovely selection of royals who are family and friends of the Princess and her husband, the Prince of Orange. Also in attendance were naturally the Dutch Royal Family, and Princess Maxima’s parents, Jorge and Maria Zorreguieta, and her brother, Martin. Representatives of the Princess’ working life were also there.
The birthday girl arrived at around 19:30, accompanied by her husband and mother-in-law, Queen Beatrix. Máxima chose to honour her adopted house – the House of Orange-Nassau – by wearing a pale orange one-shouldered evening gown.
At an interval in the orchestra’s performance, Princess Máxima took to the stage and gave what has been described only as a “heart-warming” speech, in which she thanked her husband for all his love and support, after saying she was unable to find the right words to do him justice. The Princess also thanked the Queen, saying “My mother-in-law. What do I say about her? Thank you so much for letting me into your team, with Alexander.”
Private celebrations continued on Saturday, near the couple’s residence, Villa Eikenhorst. The party guests took a boat cruise on the Kagerplassen, wearing custom-made ’40 Máxima’ windbreakers.
