Belgian Feast Year 2009
It will be an especially festive year for the Belgian Royal family. The festivities started with the celebration of the 75th Anniversary of King Albert I’s death, and the 100th anniversary of his accession to the throne, on February 17.
Then there is the golden wedding anniversary of King Albert II and Queen Paola on 2 July. As everyone knows, this marriage knew its ups and downs. Both spouses had extra-marital affairs, and at one point the couple was on the verge of a divorce. But, against all odds, they did stay together, and on the whole, there are not that many couples looking so endearing as the Belgian King and Queen.
The fall brings more celebrations for the Belgian Royals, as Princess Astrid and Prince Lorenz celebrate their silver wedding anniversary on 22 September.
And this is not the end of the wedding celebrations. Last, but certainly not least, the Duke and Duchess of Brabant celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary on 4 December.
Apart from all those wedding anniversaries, there’s also one very special birthday. On 6 June, King Albert will celebrate his 75th birthday.
