On October 22, Princess Michael met with Mintimer Shaimiev, the first President of Tatarstan, to talk about a new project to revive the ancient cities of Bolghar and Sviyazhsk (a village located at the confluence of the Volga and Sviyaga Rivers). Princess Michael said that she will be glad to help implementing this project, which has international significance. “Mutual understanding between people of different nationalities can be achieved by assisting in the development of culture, because the language of culture and art is understandable to all,” Princess Michael said.

On day two of her visit, she went to Bolghar where she was sight=seeing the historical monuments of the city, such as the Eastern mausoleum, and toured a local museum.

According to the local press of Tatarstan, the Princess expressed her regret that she didn’t have enough time to see all the things that interest her about Tatarstan, but promised to come back soon – together with her husband, Prince Michael of Kent.
