Final New Years Courts for 2010

The final two New Years Courts of 2010 were held on January 5th and 6th at Christian VII’s Palace in Amalienborg. The first court on the 5th began at 09:50, and invited the judges of the Danish Supreme Court, the Royal Lifeguards and the Hussar Guard Regiment officers to join HM Queen Margrethe II, TRH the Prince Consort, Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary.

From there it was on to Christiansborg Palace, where they attended the court for the Diplomatic Corps at 11:00. Prince Henrik was back in his military uniform for this event (he wore a white-tie tuxedo to the January 1st court), as was Prince Frederik. Queen Margrethe wore her own brand of ‘uniform’, a dark blue fur-lined evening dress, which she has worn to annual Courts each year since 2006. Princess Mary also recycled, a grey gown with matching bolero which was first seen at the 2008 Courts made its second appearance.

The following day, it was back to Christian VII’s Palace for the Court for officers of the Armed Forces and Emergency Management Agencies, 1st-3rd Class Rankings and representatives of Royal Patronages and National Organisations. Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik arrived in the Golden State Coach (also known at Christian VIII’s Coach), which was built in 1840 by Henry Fife and is coated with 24c gold leaves. This year was the first year Princess Mary has attended the January 6th Court, perhaps an indicator that she and Prince Frederik will be undertaking a larger public role this coming year.
