Royal farewell for Esperanza de Borbón
The Kings Don Juan Carlos and doña Sofia, accompanied by Infantas Cristina and Pilar, presided the mass for Esperanza de Borbón y Orleans in Villamanrique de la Condesa yesterday. Doña Esperanza was the youngest sister of the countess of Barcelona, and she died in her residence of the mentioned town last Monday. The mass was officiated for the archbishop of Seville, monsignor Carlos Amigo Vallejo. The Kings, who spend their holidays in Marivent, travelled to Seville from Palm in company of the duchess of Palm and Infanta Pilar, sister of Don Juan Carlos, who also is spending a few days of relax in the island.
In Villamanrique, the Kings were received in the Spain Square by honours of ordinance, and they accompanied the six children of the deceased and her numerous grandsons, assembled to give the matriarch of the family the last goodbye. The widower, Don Pedro de Orleans y Braganza, chief of the royal and imperial house of Brazil, who is 90 years old, attended the funeral in a chair of wheels. He was married with Esperanza for 61 years. Esperanza de Borbón, who had the title of royal and imperial Highness for her marriage with the crown to the throne of Brazil, got yesterday Infanta of Spain's funereal honours for special deference of the King. A detachment of the royal guard carried the bier of the aunt of Don Juan Carlos from her residence to Villamanrique's church, with the “Royal March and of Bitterness”, a composition from the Holy Week. The Kings, wearing mourning, headed the mourning followed by the widower and the children of Esperanza de Borbón.
