The King and Queen led their two daughters up the red-carpet, with all three women dressed in eye-catching colours. The Queen and Crown Princess both wore gowns in shades of fuschia, while Princess Madeleine chose a white ruffle-tiered gown with a black belt to accentuate her blonde hair and tanned skin.

Amongst those performing for the royal guests, as well as various members of Swedish society and the public, were the Göteborg Opera Orchestra and Chorus, the Göteborg Ballet and concert violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter. The proceeds from the event’s ticket sales, which were around 1700 SEK, all went to the Foundation, which was founded by Queen Silvia in May 1999. Company Stena will also donate the same amount raised on the night to the Foundation.

The World Childhood Foundation focuses its help mainly on young girls, street children, young mothers and abused children, along with those children who are often overlooked and forgotten. From the Foundation’s website, “The mission of World Childhood Foundation is to defend the rights of the child and to promote better living conditions for vulnerable and exploited children at risk all over the world.”

More information about the anniversary events, and the Royal Family’s participation in the Foundation, can be found here.
