Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan visited The Young Women’s Leadership School East Harlem, New York. During the visit, Her Majesty met with some of the students and staff, they discussed the importance of what education plays in daily life and how it can improve children’s lives.
Accompanying Her Majesty was UNICEF Executive Director Ann M. Veneman. Her Majesty served as UNICEF’s Eminent Advocate for Children since 2007 and also has supported a number of education initiatives that focuses on girls and education.

Countess Alexandra of Frederiksborg, the former wife of Prince Joachim, will be selling two of her most ‘delicious’ bags, one by Burberry and one by Versace, on trendsales.dk to benefit UNICEF. Other participating in the celebrity auction include Crown Princess Mary’s stylist Anja Camilla Alajdi and Marianne Dulong. Going on sale on October 5th, the starting price is DKK0, but it is hoped that plenty of money will be raised for a good cause.

Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg finished her African visit with a trip to Kenya, where she spoke at the opening of “Diagnostic to Action: Microfinance in Africa” in Nairobi.
The Grand Duchess was in Burundi as UNICEF’s Eminent Advocate for Children, a post also held by Queen Rania of Jordan, but was in Kenya representing Luxembourg, as the patron of the Luxembourgish Appui au Développement Autonome/Support for Autonomous Development organisation.
She also performed on their behalf personal visits to female micro-entrepreneurs of Kenya.
Moving away from the area of economic assisstance, the Grand Duchess spent the last part of her trip ibeing shown around the DREAM (Drug Resource Enhancement against AIDs and Malnutrition) Centre.

Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah met with United Nations Children’s Fund’s (UNICEF) Executive Director, Ann M. Veneman, on Tuesday. Ms. Veneman is visiting Jordan as part of her tour in the region. During the meeting, Ms. Veneman briefed Her Majesty about her visit to the Tumader School for Girls which is one of Madrasati’s schools. They also discussed ways to expand UNICEF projects in Jordan.
Queen Rania who is a UNICEF’s Eminent Advocate for Children, commended UNICEF’s relentless efforts to promote women’s and children’s rights, especially with regards to their social welfare.

Her Majesty Queen Rania honoured the winners of UNICEF’s first Regional Award for Media on Child Rights under the title, “Positive Messaging on Adolescence”. The award winners in four media categories, television, radio, Internet and print media, are also the winners of the annual UNICEF media forum on child rights which was established four years ago.
The theme for the 2009 UNICEF award will be “Promoting Health and Behaviour Change”, according to the agency’s regional office.

Alexandra at the inauguration
Countess Alexandra has officially inaugurated Lynby-Tarbaek as the UNICEF-City of 2009, in her capacity as patron of the Danish Committee for UNICEF.
She attended the New Years’ Concert, with Mayor Rolf Aagaard-Svendsen, where they unveiled the municipality’s logo as the UNICEF-City, appointed its Town Ambassadors, people who will help in various different ways to “make 2009 an unforgettable year in Lyngby-Tarbaek and listened to a speech by Alexandra to mark the passing of this title from Odense to Lyngby-Tarbaek.
