UAE Vice President meets Belgian Crown Prince

belgium_small His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, met with His Royal Highness the Crown Prince of Belgium, Prince Philippe.

Prince Philippe is currently visiting the country for two days on an economic mission. Sheikh Mohammed and Prince Philippe discussed economic and investment ties between the UAE and Belgium.

Dubai ruler wins endurance race and gets 6 month ban, Cp 2nd place

His Highness Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai won the 120-km Euston Park Endurance ride which took place on Monday. Sheikh Mohammed completed the race in 5 hours 7 minutes and 47 seconds while Crown Prince of Dubai Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum won 2nd place. The royals competed against 118.

The FEI has found Sheikh Mohammed guilty of doping which leads to a six month ban. Sheikh Mohammed rode his horse in Januray and in February the FEI in a statement said: “In both events, the horse was ridden by Sheikh Mohammed who is the person responsible.” Sheikh Mohammed said he had no knowledge of the doping while the trainer admitted to the doping of the horses for the two 120km races in Dubai.

Dubai Ruler buys £45m Mansion

 Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, the ruler of Dubai, has spent £45million on a country estate once owned by diamond magnate and colonial adventurer Cecil Rhodes. The mansion is Dalham Hall, which is located near Newmarket in Suffolk and runs across 3,300-acres of land including 39 houses, woods, parklands and woodlands.

Dalham Hall is an 18th century mansion and it’s a grade II-listed house. Sheikh Mohammed already owns the 3,000 acre Dalham Hall stud near Newmarket, Suffolk, where he runs his global blood-stock empire. The mansion was sold at a record price for a British country home.

Royals among the world’s 50 most influential Arabs

 Selecting the most influential people in the Middle East wasn’t easy but to so people from around the world were approached and asked to name five people and explain in a couple of sentences why they chose them. The list isn’t about the rich or powerful but about who has an influence.

Making the list were Queen Rania of Jordan who campaigns for childrens and womens rights around the world, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Dubai ruler, and Crown Prince of Dubai Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Sheikh Mozah of Qatar wife of the Emir who has been quite active in education and social reforms in Qatar, Sheikh Nahyan bin Ambarak Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research (UAE), Prince Bandar bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud (KSA), Prince Turki Al Faisal (KSA), HH Princess Lalla Salma the Kings wife (Morocco) who is the first wife of any King to be publicly active and given a title by the King, Crown Prince of Bahrain Sheikh Salman bin Hamad, and Sheikha Hanadi bint Nasser (Qatar) who was named “Woman CEO of the Year” in 2006 for her significant contribution in developing Qatar’s economic and social presence in the Arab world.

Dubai Ruler is on Twitter

 Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai has joined twitter and has 1,208 followers. The ruler joined twitter in June that was confirmed by twitter’s administrators as The National reports. Sheikh Mohammeds name on twitter is HHShkMohd and last posted on July 10. In June, Sheikh Mohammed created a facebook account (see blog).

UAE VP launches new excellence programme

 His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai has launched the Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Government Excellence Programme. The programme is in the policies of the UAE Prime Minister to identify talented and local cadres to further train them to earn responsibilities. Sheikh Mohammed stressed that the programme is to boost the performance and excellence at the federal level. The excellence could be achieved through creative initiatives based on scientific methodology and embracing of the world-class best practices.

A New Royal Joins Facebook

 His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has joined the social networking site Facebook. Sheikh Mohammed has two photo albums which are divided into two parts; My Family and Everyday Encounters as well as an Activities section where the Sheikh talks about his love of poems. “I am passionate about sports, particularly endurance racing. I enjoy and love horse riding with my family members. I enjoy the outdoors, especially the Arabian desert experience,” says Sheikh Mohammed on his page.

In the about me section the Sheikh says “I was brought up in a family that believed in the importance of visionary public service and phil-anthropy and I have tried to live these values in my everyday life.”

Sheikh Mohammed updated his page by asking a question to the people of the UAE “I visited the Ministry of Education today and would like to raise this question: Should the new academic year start during Ramadan or after the Eid holiday?”

Dubai Ruler meets Queen Elizabeth at Epsom Derby

  His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and his wife HRH Princess Haya Bint Al-Hussain met with Queen Elizabeth II of England while attending the Epsom Derby race.

Sheikh Mohammed and Queen Elizabeth talked about horse racing in England and in Dubai, as well as the horses owned by Sheikh Mohammed. Queen Elizabeth wished Sheikh Mohammed all the best in the racing world.

Sheikh Mohammed attends the Epsom races on yearly basis. Last year, Princess Haya’s horse “True Colors” won the race. The colt was a gift to her from Sheikh Mohammed.

Qatari Emir’s one-day visit to the UAE

   HH Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Emir of Qatar arrived in the UAE on Sunday where he held talks with President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The two leaders discussed relations between Qatar and the UAE and matters of mutual concern as well as the regional and international issues in line with continuous consultations between the leaderships of the two countries.

Sheikh Khalifa hosted a banquet in honour of Emir of Qatar and his delegation. After the talks and lunch the Emir returned to Qatar.

Sheikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, HH General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi and deputy supreme commander of the UAE Armed Forces and Sheikhs attended the talks.

Khalifa tours Dubai landmarks

  UAE President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan toured a number of landmarks and developmental projects in Dubai in the in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

Sheikh Khalifa was welcomed by the Dubai ruler at Jebel Ali. They toured Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Beach Residences, residential, commercial and recreational developments which are underconstruction. After the tour, Sheikh Khalifa said ”All citizens should be proud of these successes,” he said, ”in addition to our authentic Arab heritage, culture and values, which we inherited from our forefathers.”

Sheikh Mohammed hosted a luncheon banquet in honour of Sheikh Khalifa. Present at the banquet were a number of Sheikhs and officials.
