The two royals, who are both patrons of the Save the Children Fund, brought along a knitted hat to donate, in keeping with the new campaign. “Knit a Hat” aims to reduce infant mortality rates in developing African countries, where there are many cases of preventable disases like pnuemonia, diarrhea and measles. A press release from the Danish branch of Save the Children, Red Barnet, stated that “even in Africa, there are cold nights” which explains the campaign of donating knitted caps to be sent to African children.
The cap brought by Prince Frederik was not made by him though. “I would love to have knitted it myself. But it is not true,” he said in the press conference.
The Princess Royal is currently in Copenhagen for the 121st IOC Session and Olympic Congress, which runs until October 9th. Read more about the IOC event here.

The baton relay, which saw thousands of children and their parents head to Copenhagen’s Fælledparken, took place yesterday, with Mary presenting medals to all teams who completed the one kilometre long circuit. While she did not participate in the actual relay, Mary spent time to warm up and stretch with the children, producing laugh-worthy pictures of the Crown Princess waving her arms in the air on several occasions.
The event also had entertainment by the 16-year-old winner of Denmark’s X-Factor, Basim; whom Mary thanked personally for contributing to the “Free from Bullying” program.
“Free from Bullying” was developed by The Mary Foundation, and currently has over 250,000 Danish children participating. Mary took inspiration from another of her patronages, The Alannah and Madeline Foundation in Australia which organises the Better Buddies program, when working on “Free from Bullying”.

Anne, the Princess Royal, attended the annual charity lunch for Save the Children, a 90 year-old children’s charity in Cardiff, Wales, where she spoke to 500 guests, according to Walesonline.co.uk. The princess recognized the hard work that has been done by the many supporters of Save the Children. The other speaker at the event was Victor Spinetti, an Italian immigrant who walked to Wales in search of employment.
One of the guests that was honored by the organization was the lady-in-waiting to the Princess Royal, Shan Legge-Bourke, who was named ‘fundraiser of the year’. The luncheon included a silent auction and a fashion show. It is one of the major fundraising events for the Welsh branch of the charity. Organizers were hoping to raise over 45,000 pounds.
