Queen Paola Breaks Hip In Fall, To Undergo Surgery

79-year-old Queen Paola has broken her hip in a nasty fall at her home, Belvédère Castle, the Belgian Royal Court said in a statement released today. The Queen will undergo surgery to fix the break on Friday at the Cliniques Universitaires Saint-Luc in Brussels. She will require several months of rehabilitation, the Court has said. Belgium’s Queen Paola Suffers Spinal Fracture

79-year-old Queen Paola of Belgium is currently receiving treatment at the Cliniques universitaires Saint Luc in Brussels after a heavy fall resulted in a spinal fracture. According the statement released by the Belgian Royal Court, there was no neurological damage as a result of the injury. The Queen’s rehabilitation will take several months. The annual Fête du Roi celebrations were held in Belgium today, with members of the royal family attending a Te Deum service at the Cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudula in Brussels. King Albert and Queen Paola Celebrate Easter in The Vatican

Belgium’s King Albert II and Queen Paola celebrated the Easter holiday in the Vatican, attending the annual Easter Sunday mass at St Peter’s Square. The couple were greeted by Pope Francis at the end of the mass as he travelled round the Square in the ‘popemobile’ at the conclusion of the mass. The former King was seen taking photographs of the mass with his Nikon during the event.

Prince Laurent Discharged From Hospital

Belgium’s Prince Laurent was discharged from hospital yesterday afternoon, after spending three weeks in hospital suffering from pneumonia. The spokesperson for the Royal Court, Pierre-Emmanuel Bauw, confirmed the news, saying that the Prince had been determined stable enough by his doctors at the Brussels Saint-Luc University Hospital to complete his recovery at home.
