To start the events, Monaco’s sporting mad Prince hosted his annual pre-F1 soccer match in Monaco’s Louis II Stadium.  The friendly match pits members of the F1 racing teams as “Nazionale Piloti” against the Prince’s “Star Team.”  The game is played to benefit AMADE, an organization which special ties to the Monaco ruling family, as it was first organized by Princess Grace. Princess Caroline currently heads the organization but was unable to attend the event.

Team Nazionale Piloti, in Black and White checked flag uniforms included Felipe Massa, Fernando Alonso, Sebastian Vettel, Giancarlo Fisichella, Sebastien Bourdais, Jarno Trulli and Nico Rosberg. Both teams were cheered on the sidelines by Monaco’s Princess Stephanie.

HRH Princess Caroline of Hanover and her sister HSH Princess Stephanie of Monaco, in their roles as President of AMADE and Fight Aids Monaco respectively, renewed the 2008 agreement between the organizations to assist AIDS orphans in Burundi.  The signing took place during the 46th Annual AMADE Assembly in Monaco which took place April 2 and 3 and included a benefit dinner in the Empire Room of the Hotel de Paris on April 2.

AMADE, (Association mondiale des Amis de l’Enfance) was founded in 1963 by Princess Grace of Monaco to help children throughout the world. HRH Princess Caroline was elected to the Presidency in 1993.  Fight Aids Monaco, began in 2004 from two smaller organizations after Princess Stephanie became alarmed about the high rate of AIDS infection in Monaco.

Today’s agreement continues an ambitious three year work agreement that continues to support both organization’s goals to help more than 830,000 Burundi orphans with basic services like medical care and prevention campaigns.

Monaco’s 33rd Annual International Circus Festival of Monte-Carlo concluded January 25, 2009 with awards presented by Her Serene Highness Princess Stephanie.  The festival included more than 15 performances (one more than previous years) and included appearances by the Princess and her children. Although the family has often appeared together in years past, neither Prince Albert II or Princess Caroline were in Monaco to attend this year’s festivities.

Princess Stephanie serves as President of the Festival and judges, actively planning each years events in addition to awarding the prizes.  It was the Princess’ parents, the Prince Rainier and Princess Grace, who first invited the best acts to Monaco in 1974 and included famous friends as judges to draw tourists. Prince Rainier’s circus fascination included signing personal documents with a hand drawn clown face and the keeping of animals at the Palace Zoo.  He passed along his love of the circus to his youngest daughter who spent time traveling with a circus troupe in Europe and has allowed her children to train and perform.

This year’s events included the presentation of the Clown D’Or and the Clown D’Argent to the Cirque Moranbong de Pyong Yang.

Related photos for the festival are available here.
