HRH Princess Eugenie of York returned to royal duties after her gap year travels last week, conducting a day of football-themed charitable engagements.

Eugenie partnered with Sir David Tang, a family friend, to bring young members of the Hong Kong Down’s Syndrome Association’s Dragon Football Team to Chelsea Football Club’s Stamford Bridge.  On the pitch, the young football enthusiasts met with one of England’s most famous players, midfielder Frank Lampard.

The princess hosted a lunch for the team at Kensington Palace, and after their visit to Stamford Bridge, they went on a sightseeing tour of attractions in London.

Eugenie will reportedly continue charity work throughout the summer, partnering with the Children in Crisis charity which was founded by her mother, Sarah, Duchess of York.  She will begin university studies in the fall.

HRH Princess Eugenie of York continued her ’round-the-world gap year adventure this week in Thailand, where she was caught by paparazzi while palling around with a group of friends on the beach.

Eugenie sported a patriotic bikini-style swimsuit — but one that echoed the American flag, not the British Union Jack.

Though her bodyguards were not captured in any of the photos, it is certain that they were close by.  Both Eugenie and her sister, HRH Princess Beatrice of York, have garnered criticism for traveling the world on pleasure trips while accompanied by taxpayer-funded security officers from Scotland Yard.

Eugenie reportedly plans to attend university in the UK after her gap year draws to a close.

Princess Eugenie Lights Up in Sydney

April 3rd, 2009

Princess Eugenie is apparently finding it harder to quit smoking than she thought it would be. The young princess was seen lighting up as she wandered the shops of Sydney this week.

The princess is on her gap year after earning top grades in her classes. She is on vacation in Australia with a group of friends, looking just like any other student on break, except for her ever-present bodyguard.

Princess Eugenie has vowed early this year to kick her ‘smelly’ habit. She made the promise as a new year’s resolution. However, it’s clearly not as easy to fulfill as it was to make.

The Issa Label and the Young British Royals

March 28th, 2009

Issa designs

Daniella Issa Helayel, Brazilian designer who created the fashion label Issa, has become one of the main designers used by Kate Middleton. image1 Whilst Kate may not yet be a royal, the Issa label is also a favourite of Prince William’s cousins Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie of York as well as many other celebrities. Issa is known for its collection of beautiful silk patterned wrap dresses in bold prints (image2) or lovely floor-length evening gowns. (image3 – Pippa Middleton in a classic Issa evening gown attending the End of Summer Ball in Berkeley Square 2008) A deep plunging neckline is also a feature in many of Issa’s designs. image4 An average dress from the label will cost between £400 and £1000.

Having Kate being photographed in Issa designs has brought an increase in the amount of press attention to the label. Articles about the label will most likely refer to it being “Kate’s favourite designer” and to an extent she has become an “unofficial muse”. Kate has chosen to showcase Issa designs at a number of high profile events. Last June at the Boodles Boxing event attended by William, Harry and Chelsy Davy, Kate stepped out in a show-stopping coral floor-length gown with plunging neckline. image5 Another Issa dress was worn to the wedding of Peter and Autumn Phillips in May 2008, where Kate received a lot of media attention due to her attendance without Prince William. image6 , image7 At the Concert for Diana on 1st July 2007 Kate again choose another Issa creation of a white trench coat with white lace dress underneath. image8 This occasion was the first time she had been photographed with William since their ’split’ that April and obvioulsy received huge press cover across the world. One of Issa’s signature pieces is the “Lucky” dress which Kate Middleton has worn on numerous occasions. image9 The dress comes in a number of colours and Kate has worn the black version with the sheer back (image10) as well as a white version with a closed back which she wore to Wimbledon 2008. image11

The Issa label is also favoured by Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie who attended the catwalk show of the spring/summer 09 collection during London Fashion week in September 2008. Naturally the two princesses turned up at the event in Issa creations image12 Princess Beatrice also wore an Issa dress to the society wedding of Choice Delevigne and Louis Buckworth on 7th September 2007. image13

Issa’s dresses are beautifully tailored and tend to suit most people especially the classic style of Kate Middleton. We will have to wait and see whether Kate continues to wear Issa and maybe it might even become her “label” in her possible future royal life.

More information on the designer can be found at the Issa website.

HRH Princess Eugenie of York, who is currently taking a gap year after finishing at Marlborough College, has reportedly been forced to scrap plans for a South American trip because of fears for her security.

Princess Eugenie, who has a personal royal protection officer, was in Mumbai days before gunmen targeted tourists there in 2008.  Her father, HRH The Duke of York, is apparently worried for his daughter’s continued safety abroad and has asked that she cancel a trip to Mexico, Bolivia, and Peru.  Princess Eugenie was reportedly also keen to visit the Argentine farm of her late grandmother, Susan Barrantes.

Instead, it is reported that Princess Eugenie will now travel to Los Angeles and to Sydney, Australia, where her aunt Jane Luedecke lives.

HRH Princess Beatrice of York, HRH Princess Eugenie of York, and their mother, Sarah, Duchess of York, all attended the London premiere of The Young Victoria this week, a new film that explores the early romance and marriage of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert.

The Duchess of York is one of the producers of the film, which stars Emily Blunt as Victoria and Rupert Friend as Albert.  Princess Beatrice makes her film debut in the movie in a cameo role as one of Victoria’s ladies-in-waiting.  She is briefly seen during the film’s coronation scene.  The film’s director, Jean-Marc Vallée, declared that Beatrice was “wonderful to direct – very patient during what can sometimes be a long and arduous process.”

The film’s screenwriter also has links to royalty — Oscar-winner Julian Fellowes is married to one of HRH Princess Michael of Kent’s former ladies-in-waiting, Emma Kitchener.  Prince and Princess Michael live in an apartment in Kensington Palace, where Victoria also once lived.

The York princesses and their mum had to deal with rainy and windy conditions at the film premiere, which Beatrice’s boyfriend Dave Clark also attended.  They celebrated into the night with excursions to Whisky Mist and China Tang after the premiere had finished.

The Young Victoria opened in British theatres on Friday; the film’s official website features a trailer clip.

It must have been a very long day Tuesday for HRH Princess Eugenie of York, daughter of HRH The Duke of York, who was snapped leaving trendy London nightclub Boujis at four o’clock on Wednesday morning after attending the unveiling of her great-grandmother’s new memorial earlier the previous day.

The young princess apparently didn’t even have time to change her dress, as she was wearing the same polka-dot frock outside the club that she donned to see HM The Queen Mother’s statue revealed on the Mall.

Princess Eugenie has been photographed by London’s paparazzi frequently since finishing her studies at Marlborough College last spring.  She is currently taking a gap year before moving on to university studies.
