Princess Ariane Hospitalised with Respiratory Problems

October 9th, 2009

The RVD yesterday confirmed that HRH Princess Ariane, the youngest daughter of TRH The Prince of Orange and Princess Máxima, was admitted to hospital yesterday with respiratory problems resulting from an infection to her upper breathing system.

In the press release, the RVD stated that Princess Máxima spent the night at the hospital with her daughter, and that the two-year-old will be released Friday morning, Dutch time.

This is not the first time Princess Ariane has been admited to hospital because of breathing issues. In May 2007, a month after her birth, Ariane was taken to the Leiden University Medical Centre with what was believed to be a lung infection. She spent four days in the medical centre and was treated for a bacterial and viral infection.

Princess Máxima in the meantime has cancelled her attendance at this morning’s opening of the “The Qi of China” exhibition at the Amsterdam Tropical Museum.

Triple Treat: Dutch Photo Session by the Sea

July 21st, 2009

A trio of blonde-haired, denim-clad little girls frolicked on a Wassenaar beach yesterday, with a protective eye cast over them by their parents. This could describe any normal family, but with a pack of approximately ninety photographers, videographers and reporters watching their every move; it is clear that normal this family is not.

The Prince of Orange, Willem-Alexander, and his wife Princess Máxima arranged a photo session with their three daughters – Princesses Catharina-Amalia, Alexia and Ariane – as part of the summer holidays. The scenery of the beautiful empty beach surrounded by sand dunes provided a gorgeous location for the session.

The family arrived through the sand dunes; the elder girls walking ahead of their parents, Ariane on her father’s shoulders. Off came the shoes, before the girls ran ahead to play on the sand with a Dora the Explorer ball Amalia brought with them. The help of Mum and Dad was enlisted when sandcastles needed to be built, with Willem-Alexander given the job of water collector.

While the girls played, the Prince and Princess spoke with the reporters present. Amongst other topics, the Koninginnedag accident came up. The pair said that they still thought about the accident, and while their daughters knew what happened, they had been shielded from any images.

Willem-Alexander and Máxima also told reporters that they plan to attend the religious wedding ceremony of the Prince’s first cousin, Bernardo Guillermo, in New York City in September; which happily coincides with the pair’s official trip to the US state to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the Hudson Voyage which founded New Amsterdam (present-day New York).

Princess Alexia of The Netherlands, second daughter of the prince of Orange and princess Máxima, will have her first day on school on monday. This friday the princess will become four years old, according to newspaper ‘Telegraaf’ she hopes for a çool’ backpack, that she can use.

This was said in a private meeting between members of the press and the prince of Orange and his wife. Like her sister Amalia, Alexia will also go to the Bloemcampschool in Wassenaar. The little princess is looking forward to the day, according to her mother she says all day ‘I am going to school’. She also wants to know how many nights she still has to sleep before the big day. Her younger sister princess Ariane now also says she wants to go to school, but her parents have to tell her that in her case she has to wait for two years, not a few nights. According to princess Máxima, princess Ariane is a child of with an enormous will power, she talks non-stop.

Princess Alexia will however only go to school for a few days, to get acquainted with it. The summer vacation will start in a few weeks, but on 24 August it will be for real. It is unknown if the press will be invited to film princess Alexia on her first school day. When princess Amalia went to school for the first time, one camera team was allowed to film her for a few minutes.

The three princesses have not been seen in public after the winter photo shoot in Lech. They were supposed to attended the Queen’s Day parade at Het Loo palace. The princesses were looking forward to the event, but due to the tragedy on 30 April that was cancelled. Their parents kept away all images of the tragedy from their daughters.
