Prince Henrik’s First Christmas

November 8th, 2009

Prince Joachim and Princess Marie’s little son Henrik’s first Christmas is approaching, and the parents have already begun the planning. Prince Joachim told reporters that it would be a good guess to say that they will spend it at Marselisborg Castle.

However, Princes Nikolai and Felix will unfortunately not be able to there, as they spent their last Christmas with their father, and therefore, as per their usual arrangement, will spend this one with their mother the Countess of Frederiksborg and their step-father Martin Joergensen.

It is also expected that the Crown Princely family will spend Christmas with the Queen and the other Prince Henrik in Marselisborg as well.

Prince Joachim and Princess Marie, along with their new baby son, arrived today on the royal ship Danneborg, joining Queen Margrethe and Princes Henrik, Nikolai and Felix at Haderslev ahead of the christening, due to take place this Sunday at Møgeltønder Church, the same church where Prince Joachim and Princess Marie were married.

The christening will take place at 17:30, with two hundred guests attending and is likely to be a relatively informal affair, with a reception at 19:15 at Schackenborg, the family home of Joachim and Marie.

It will also be then when, in keeping with tradition, the names – probably four – of the baby prince shall finally be revealed (and forum members will find out which of the over 276 guesses was correct/closest).

Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik are currently continuing their annual tour on the Dannebrog.

Farfar Henrik wished a Happy Birthday by his Grandchildren

June 11th, 2009

Prince Henrik’s birthday celebrations continued today, beginning bright and early this morning at Fredensborg Palace. Prince Christian and Princess Isabella were on hand in the grounds of Fredensborg Palace to wish their Farfar (Danish for paternal grandfather) a happy 75th birthday. The pair joined their parents, Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary, and a few dozen staff, friends and locals outside in the gardens of Fredensborg Palace.

Here, the group waited for Henrik to appear in one of the palace windows. The birthday boy, who turns 75 today, opened the window accompanied by Queen Margrethe II, and smiled and waved broadly to the small crowd. Christian and Isabella waved Danish flags and played with the gravel while there, before the group sang Henrik a birthday song.

At around lunchtime, the royal family gathered once more (and so did the rain!) for a military parade outside Fredensborg Palace. Prince Henrik was surrounded by four of his five grandchildren (Prince Joachim and Princess Marie’s month-old son stayed indoors) for the parade, and Prince Christian got a stern talking-to by his dad after he was spotted climbing on a lamp post. Princes Nikolai and Felix, Joachim’s eldest sons, did not follow in their cousin’s footsteps, behaving like perfect gentlemen in their matching grey suits.

The Berleburg relatives also joined the family on the steps, as did Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, who flew in from Stockholm for the parade and luncheon which was held at Fredensborg Palace’s Orangery. The majority of the royal party were wearing new commemorative medals, a silver medallion hanging on blue ribbon emblazoned with Prince Henrik’s monogram. Read more…

Countess Alexandra, her husband and two sons Prince Nikolai and Prince Felix have been spending the last month on holiday in Hong Kong, where Alexandra was born. If possible, Alexandra tries to take her children to Hong Kong every year to see her sister Nicola and her three children, who are the only ones now  of her family who still live in HK (her parents live in Vienna, and her other sister in the UK) and so that she can catch up with her friends.

They are expected to be back by Easter, and Alexandra will apparently resume her schedule of engagements on the 24th.

Prince Felix today attended a carnival party at his school, where he was accompanied by his mother, Countess Alexandra, his stepfather, Martin Joergensen, his brother Prince Nikolai and his father Prince Joachim, once again proving, if there was ever any doubt, that Alexandra and Joachim are still on good terms; they both always come together to take the children to school on their first day, to take them to the circus and have still continued to give out grants from the Alexandra and Joachim Fund.

Winter Holiday for Prince Joachim and His Family

Princes Nikolai and Felix on vacation

Princes Joachim, Nikolai and Felix, along with their stepmother Princess Marie and members of her family have been spending the past few days on a skiing holiday in Villars-sur-Ollon. Although Marie herself didn’t take part due to her pregnancy, Nikolai and Felix have been having a ball with Joachim on the slopes.

It was in Villars-sur-Ollon that the press got the first view of Marie with the two princes, who would soon become her stepsons, signalling how close Marie and Joachim had become.

Marie also showed off her Danish, speaking to journalists in what TRF Danish member Lilla  called an ‘excellent’ pronunciation – great news for Marie, as Danish is a notoriously difficult language to pronounce. She told the journalists that she can understand most when she is listening or reading, but finds speaking to be hard.
