Triple Treat: Dutch Photo Session by the Sea

July 21st, 2009

A trio of blonde-haired, denim-clad little girls frolicked on a Wassenaar beach yesterday, with a protective eye cast over them by their parents. This could describe any normal family, but with a pack of approximately ninety photographers, videographers and reporters watching their every move; it is clear that normal this family is not.

The Prince of Orange, Willem-Alexander, and his wife Princess Máxima arranged a photo session with their three daughters – Princesses Catharina-Amalia, Alexia and Ariane – as part of the summer holidays. The scenery of the beautiful empty beach surrounded by sand dunes provided a gorgeous location for the session.

The family arrived through the sand dunes; the elder girls walking ahead of their parents, Ariane on her father’s shoulders. Off came the shoes, before the girls ran ahead to play on the sand with a Dora the Explorer ball Amalia brought with them. The help of Mum and Dad was enlisted when sandcastles needed to be built, with Willem-Alexander given the job of water collector.

While the girls played, the Prince and Princess spoke with the reporters present. Amongst other topics, the Koninginnedag accident came up. The pair said that they still thought about the accident, and while their daughters knew what happened, they had been shielded from any images.

Willem-Alexander and Máxima also told reporters that they plan to attend the religious wedding ceremony of the Prince’s first cousin, Bernardo Guillermo, in New York City in September; which happily coincides with the pair’s official trip to the US state to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the Hudson Voyage which founded New Amsterdam (present-day New York).

Today the Crown Princely couple and their children were seen during a photo session to mark Prince Haakon’s birthday. The Prince will turn 36 on monday. The pictures of the family were taken at Risoerflekken. The Crown Princely family is enjoying the holidays at the cabin in Flatholmen this week.

The whole family will celebrate the Prince’ birthday there tomorrow; privately. During the photosession, Ingrid and Magnus were blinded by the bright lights. The little Prince tried to escape a few times and didn’t seem to be in an especially good mood.

Today, Prince Philippe and Princess Mathilde kept a their yearly appointment with the press for a summer photo shoot with their family. This year, they took their children to an animal park called Parc Paradisio.

Princess Elisabeth, Prince Gabriel, Prince Emmanuel and Princess Eléonore enjoyed seeing the animals from close up, which of course brought about a load of cute pictures of the young Princes and Princesses with birds, monkeys and even a goat.

Also, in line with tradition, the princely family was dressed similar: the two boys were wearing the same short trousers and sweaters, and the girls had T-shirts in the same pattern. Princess Mathilde and Prince Philippe were also wearing the same colours, which gives all pictures an extra touch of cuteness…

As they do every February, the Danish Crown Princely Family have gone for a skiing holiday in Switzerland. Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary allowed a quick photo session to take place with their two children, Prince Christian and Princess Isabella, before returning to their privacy and friends.

While the family has traditionally spent their skiing holiday in Verbier since 2002, this year the family opted for a more family-friendly skiing resort; enjoying the holiday with several of their good friends; Jørgen and Marie Louise Skeel, Peter and Caroline Heering, and Christopher Thomsen Kiær and Sofie Kirk Kristiansen; along with all their friends’ small children.

3-year-old Prince Christian gave his first “interview” to Danish newspaper BT during the photo session. He was asked what his favourite part of the holiday was, to which he replied, “Skiing. I’ve been on skis…like this,” and showed the reporters how he turns his feet inward when he breaks. Christian also said that “Lightning McQueen, Doc Hudson and the Hudson Hornet” were also good parts of the holiday, referring to his favourite movie Cars.

Today, the main members of the Dutch royal family participated in their annual photo session in the exclusive Austrian ski resort of Lech am Arlberg, in Vorarlberg. Queen Beatrix was joined by her eldest and youngest sons, Princes Willem-Alexander and Prince Constantijn; along with their respective wives – Princesses Máxima and Laurentien – and their gaggle of adorable children for the winter holiday.

4-year-old Count Claus-Casimir was outnumbered amongst his siblings and cousins – the youngster has two sisters and five female first cousins (two of which were not present)!, but spent some quality time with Dad. Queen Beatrix was ever the doting “Oma” and clearly enjoyed the time with her grandchildren. This year, according to Dutch newspaper ‘De Telegraaf‘, is the fiftieth year the Dutch royals have spent holidaying in Lech.
