Marguerite de Valois, Princess of France was born at the Royal Chateau of Saint-Germain-en-Laye on May 14, 1553, the youngest surviving daughter of Henri II of France and Catherine de Médici. Blanche of Artois is an important but long-forgotten historical figure. Born a Princess of France in 1248, Blanche was the daughter of Robert of France, Count of Artois and Matilda of Brabant.
