In an audience earlier today at Amalienborg, Queen Margrethe II was presented with her jubilee gift from Greenland’s parliament and home rule government. The gift consists of a tiara and earrings set, made by Greenlandic goldsmith Nicolai Appel. The tiara, named Nassut and meaning ‘Flowers from Greenland’, was made of melted gold coins, the gold of which was mined from the Kirkespirdalen mine in Greenland. The Ruby Jubilee celebrations of Queen Margrethe II of Denmark continued yesterday, with a full day of events to mark the Queen’s anniversary. It began with the Queen’s 500th State Council meeting at Christiansborg Palace in the morning. Following their visit to Roskilde Cathedral yesterday, the Danish Royal Family continued with the celebrations marking Queen Margrethe II’s fortieth anniversary as monarch in Copenhagen. The three daughters of King Frederik IX of Denmark have visited his grave at Roskilde Cathedral this morning, Danish time, to mark the fortieth anniversary of the late King’s death in 1972. The first exhibition was held at the Museum of National History at Frederiksborg Castle in Hillerød, and was entitled Regent of 40 Years – Queen Margrethe 1972-2012. Earlier today, festivities held to mark HM Queen Margrethe II’s fortieth anniversary as the Danish monarch began in Copenhagen. The Queen, accompanied by TRH Prince Henrik, Crown Prince Frederik, Crown Princess Mary and Prince Joachim, was welcomed to a reception at Folketinget.
