Lalla Salma Participates in Medicines For Low-Income Patients Program

morocco_small Last Wednesday, Princess Lalla Salma of Morocco served as the chairperson for the first event of the “Medicines for Low-Income Patients Program” in Casablanca. The Princess devotes a lot of time and energy to supporting cancer research. She also serves as the head of the Anti-Cancer Association of Morocco (ASLC).

According to an article from Agence Maghreb Arabe Presse, the program provides medical check-ups, chemotherapy, and other medicines to people with cancer. The group has created a database and record-keeping system in an effort to better serve those with cancer who wouldn’t otherwise be able to get treatment.

Princess Lalla Salma Allies with Roche for the Fight Against Cancer in Morocco

morocco_small Princess Lalla Salma, chairwoman of the Lalla Salma Association to Fight Cancer(the ALSC), presided on Friday in Rabat over the signing of a protocol of agreement between the Association and “Roche Morocco” Laboratory.

The agreement will enable low-income patients with cancer to benefit from the most innovative medicines in oncology, under this agreement the ALSC offers through public cancer centres anti-cancer medicines to poor patients who have no access to medical coverage.

Several distinguished guests attended the ceremony inculding Mr and Mrs Andrew Hoffmann, a member of the founding family and vice-chairman of the Hoffman-La Roche, Mr Tuygan Goeker director for Roche CEMAI region(Central Europe, Middle East, Africa and Indian subcontinent) and Sami Zerelli, Director General of Roche North Africa and Egypt.

Mr Goeker said that “The international reputation of HRH Princess Lalla Salma, Goodwill Ambassador for the WHO, to promote the prevention and treatment of cancer, which allowed Morocco to have a pioneering role in the fight against cancer,particularly among the poorest patients,and that motivated Roche to initiate a program of this magnitude”

To Mr Sami Zerelli the dynamism of the ALSC and the personal commitment of His Royal Highness for this cause “ensures the rigorous enforcement and the access to the program which gives a chance for patients with low incomes and which for Roche the best way to celebrate his 50 years in Morocco.”

Some 30,000 new cases of cancer are documented yearly in Morocco, and the Lalla Salma Association to Fight Cancer Mission is to focus on the assistance to patients and their families especially to improve the quality of life of cancer patients and of their relatives, enlarge the plans of the information and prevention, provide the support to the medical staff and for clinical and operational research, and provide the support and assistance for the setting up and equipping of oncology centers.

Lalla Salma Meets With the President of Argentina

morocco_small Last Friday, Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, President of Argentina, met with Lalla Salma at the royal palace in Morocco. It was a quick and private meeting, lasting only an hour, according to Telam National News Agency of Argentina.

Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner was on her way back to Buenos Aires when she made the stop in Morocco. She had been on an official visit to India. Lalla Salma requested the meeting. She was very interested in learning about de Kirchner’s experiences in India. The two women discussed the official trip, and then de Kirchner went on to Buenos Aires. Unfortunately, photos of the meeting have not been released.

Royals among the world’s 50 most influential Arabs

 Selecting the most influential people in the Middle East wasn’t easy but to so people from around the world were approached and asked to name five people and explain in a couple of sentences why they chose them. The list isn’t about the rich or powerful but about who has an influence.

Making the list were Queen Rania of Jordan who campaigns for childrens and womens rights around the world, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Dubai ruler, and Crown Prince of Dubai Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Sheikh Mozah of Qatar wife of the Emir who has been quite active in education and social reforms in Qatar, Sheikh Nahyan bin Ambarak Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research (UAE), Prince Bandar bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud (KSA), Prince Turki Al Faisal (KSA), HH Princess Lalla Salma the Kings wife (Morocco) who is the first wife of any King to be publicly active and given a title by the King, Crown Prince of Bahrain Sheikh Salman bin Hamad, and Sheikha Hanadi bint Nasser (Qatar) who was named “Woman CEO of the Year” in 2006 for her significant contribution in developing Qatar’s economic and social presence in the Arab world.

Lalla Salma attends meeting in Tunis

 Princess Lalla Salma attended and spoke at the 4th meeting of the Higher Council of the Arab Women which is being held in Tunis this year. Speaking on Thursday at the meeting, Lalla Salma spoke about women empowerment in Morocco saying that the Kingdom has gone along way in gender equality and enhancing women’s participation in the management of public affairs, in central and local government, in parliament, as well as community organisations. She went on saying that there can be no political or institutional empowerment of women unless their economic, social and cultural rights are promoted, and unless women become part of the development process.

Moroccan Crown Prince Completes 1st Grade

 The Crown Prince of Morocco, Moulay El Hassan, finished his first school year at the Royal Palace’s Ecole Princière in Rabat. King Mohammed VI, his wife Princess Lalla Salma and daughter Princess Lalla Khadija attended an end of year ceremony at the school.

Prince Moulay El Hassan gave a speech at the begining of the ceremony, which was followed by songs and plays in four languages: Arabic, English, Spanish and French. Later on, the King and his wife were showen a few paintings done by the Prince and his classmates.

Lalla Salma opens Fez Music Festival

 Princess Lalla Salma wife of king Mohammed VI attended the opening ceremony of the 15th Fez Sacred Music Festival. This years concert is inspired by The Tree of Life which as the trees are the centre of the world and source of life.

The festival runs through till June 6. The festival features jazz violinist Didier Lockwood, and Iranian percussionist Keyvan Chemirani, Sami Yusuf a singer who is influenced by faith and a few other artists.

During the seven-day festival, there will be a few art exhibitions along with conferences.

Most Elegant Royals in Hola vote

Each week Spanish magazine Hola (sister of the Britsh version Hello)runs a poll online to see which person their readers think has worn the most elegnat outfit. Winners of the weekly poll are then put into a monthly vote with those winners going forward to the Grand Finale at the end of year.

Abdullah and Rania in Morocco-Day 1

  Their Majesties King Abdullah II and Queen Rania Al Abdullah arrived in Fez, Morocco on a working visit that will be followed by an official visit to Portugal. Their Majesties were were welcomed by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, who was accompanied by HRH Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan and SAR Princess Lalla Salma at the international airport Fez Saiss.

After the welcome ceremony at the airport, King Abdullah II King Mohammed VI at the Fez Royal Palace held talks which discussed developments at the Arab and regional levels and means to develop a unified Arab stance to deal with them, highlighting the need to realise Arab solidarity, a Royal Court statement said.

Later that evening, King Mohammed VI and Lalla Salma held a family dinner in honor of King Abdullah II and Queen Rania of Jordan at the Fez Royal Palace.

The dinner was also attended by Prince Moulay Rachid , Special Advisor of the Jordanian king, Prince Talal Ben Mohammad, Princess Ghaida Talal (Spouse of Prince Talal) and Cherif Moulay Youssef.
