Prince Zeid Selected As New UN Human Rights Chief

The United Nations General Assembly elected on June 16 Prince Zeid bin Raad Al-Hussein of Jordan as the new High Commissioner for Human Rights. Prince Zeid, who will succeed South African Navi Pillay next September, was nominated for this position by the United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon, ealier this month. Crown Prince Couple’s Visit to Indonesia

Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit paid a three-day visit to Indonesia from November 26th to 28th. They were accompanied by a large delegation of representatives of the Norwegian trade, industry and public administration. Her Majesty Queen Noor of Jordan received on November 2nd, 2011 the Inspiration Award, during the annual luncheon of the Dag Hammarskjöld Fund for Journalists in the Dining Room at the United Nations. Nobel Peace Prize 2010

Today the Nobel Peace Prize Award ceremony took place in Oslo. This year Chinese human rights activist Liu Xiaobo was awarded for his long and non-violent fight for human rights in China. Queen Rania wins the European Council on Human Rights Award

Her Majesty Queen Rania Al-Abdullah has won the European Council on Human Rights award. The award will be awarded to Queen Rania in a ceremony which will be held in the premises of the Portuguese Parliament in Lisbon on March 16. Winning the award along with the Queen Rania was the former Portuguese President, Jorge Sampaio.
