The RVD has confirmed that Princess Beatrix underwent knee replacement surgery today at the Franciscus/Vlietland Hospital in Schiedam. Orthopaedic surgeons Dr Marcel Driessen and Dr Stefan Breugem performed the surgery, which replaced the Princess’s right knee with a prostheses. She had a similar surgery performed on her left knee back in 2005. Princess Beatrix will remain in hospital for a few days, before undertaking rehabilitation at home.
