Crown Prince Alexander, Crown Princess Katherine, Hereditary Prince Peter, Prince Philip and Prince Alexander of Serbia attended a charity banquet at the “Place de la Musique” in Chicago. Also present were Crown Princess Katherine’s grandchildren Amanda and Stephanie.

The brunch, organized by Lifeline Organization, is part of the Breast Cancer Campaign. The cause is important for the Crown Princess: The Crown Princess Katherine Foundation is actively supporting breast cancer awareness campaign and encourages the Serbian women to take steps to prevent the terrible disease.

The foundation often works in collaboration with the Ministry of Health. Just recently, the foundation was able to purchase a General Electric Mobile Digital Mammography Machine worth over $900,000, thanks to generous donation from Stavros Niarchos Charitable Organization. The foundation also frequently organizes events to support the Breast Cancer Campaign.

Later that day, The Royal Family visited the grave of King Peter II of Yugoslavia, at the Saint Sava Monastery in Libertyville, Illinois. His Eminence Metropolitan Christopher of North Western America led the prayers for the late King.

Queen Fabiola Mistakenly Declared Dead Yet Again

November 9th, 2009

belgium_small Several days ago, “De Morgen” newspaper announced the death of Queen Fabiola on their website.

The announcement read: “Sixteen years after the death of her husband King Baudouin, Her Majesty passed away at the age of 81. Her health has been frail in the last few years and the pneumonia she suffered from recently proved fatal”.

The Royal Palace was quick to deny the news and the “De Morgen” apologized for the mistake. This is not the first time Queen Fabiola’s death was erroneously declared: earlier in January, VRT and Gazet van Antwerpen made a similar mistake, issuing premature arbitraries.

This is a very unfortunate time for such mistakes as there has been an increasing concern for Her Majesty’s health; just about two weeks ago, the Palace announced that Queen Fabiola will not attend any official functions in near future because of her frail health.

Queen Fabiola is currently recovering in Spain.

Royal Fiancé Receives Swine Flu Vaccine, Royal Family Wait in Line

November 1st, 2009

Daniel Westling, the fiancé of HRH Crown Princess Victoria, has been confirmed as receiving the much-sought-after Influenza A (H1N1), ie. swine flu, vaccine.

Westling is considered to be in the high-risk group after undergoing a kidney transplant in May this year. The high-risk category includes pregnant women, people with compromised immune systems (cancer patients, HIV/AIDS sufferers), and people who fall into the seasonal flu vaccine at-risk group (as Daniel does).

Nina Eldh, the head of communications at the Royal Court, confirmed the news to Swedish newspaper Expressen. Eldh also confirmed that Westling is the only member of the Royal Family to have been vaccinated. “The National Board of Health and Welfare has recommended the vaccine. They [the Royal Family] will have it when it is available,” she said.

The Royal Family is believed to be receiving the vaccine in the coming weeks. TM King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia have previously spoken of their wish to be vaccinated against the influenza which has killed just over 6,000 people worldwide since the first outbreak was confirmed in Mexico.

Daniel Westling is not the only European royal to be vaccinated. Last week, the Norwegian Royal Court confirmed that the senior branch of the family (the King, Queen and Crown Prince Couple) had received the vaccine.
